I think it knows.

"It" being my wonderful Gateway laptop that I've had since I moved out to Cobblestone with Sonia and Mandy. And "what it knows" being that I'm replacing it with a bigger and better HP.

Bigger and better as in 4 gigs of RAM instead of 1. Bigger and better as in a 400 gb hard drive instead of 60. It's a gigantic upgrade. And ironically, the new model costs half the price of what I paid for my Gateway.

So the Gateway's feeling a little lonely lately. And it's started causing me problems... because it knows. And now it's lashing out in the only way it can.

Don't worry, wonderful Gateway. I'll always treasure the years we spent together. And I do apologize for giving you to my evil little sister. Feel free to mess with her whenever necessary.

On the other hand, I'm having a lot of fun organizing and uploading to my spectacular new HP. Haven't gotten to mess around with it too much yet, but I just installed InDesign and Photoshop today, so we'll see how fast this baby runs when I transfer my pictures.

Bye, Jeremy!

Jeremy's three week vacation in the states is over, and tomorrow he heads back to Benin for another fourteen months or so. We'll miss him again, but it was sooooo good to have him back for Sonia and Paul's wedding. As my personal wedding buddy (yeah, threes!), I can genuinely say he made the wedding weekend fun for me, and now we've even got a great story to tell amongst the camp people about Festus (yes, camp director, Festus) trying to set us up. I guess once you're out of camp and in your mid-twenties, the 2-1 rule no longer applies. ;)

Sonia and Paul were back from their Canadian cruise, and it was fun to catch up with my roomie (and now roommate-in law!) on how the wedding and party and all that went down last weekend. She loved every minute of it, and I'm so glad she wasn't stressed out or anything.

After we had a great barbecued dinner in the Breuninger's backyard, we headed back inside to warm up and play Apples to Apples, Cranium, and just hang out and talk. A nice relaxing way to spend an evening and send off a good friend.

Have a great year in Africa, Jer-Bear!

Update, Update!

No.: 144
Katelyn's graduation party. She graduated from the nursing program at Biola last weekend, and after a month hiatus in her home state of Oregon, she'll be moving down here permanently. Not with us though; her new home will be wherever Sarah and Adam's new house is. I just hope it's close by, so we can keep up with our pseudo-roommate's antics.

Memorial Day! The OSF and I went and played miniature golf for a couple hours, then off to a short stop at Jessica and Mike's for burgers, a fifteen minute shift at Youth Venture (not my fault no kids were there), this cute little market, Vons, and then back to his house to make delicious tequila lime fish tacos. I tell you, that guy's a good date.

Now if only we could master the one-armed picture...

No.: 146
Not sure what was going on here... I think I just needed a picture of the day, and these were my three willing subjects. Love how Russ is just surrounded by food and pillows.

This is what...

... anticipation looks like.

And this is the next day.

More pictures of the wedding coming soon!

Nemesised

The OSF and I have this game we play. It's called Nemesis. The idea came about from a craigslist posting where some guy claimed he was so bored with his life that he wanted to hire a nemesis to spice things up a little bit. The criteria for 'nemesis' was creativity, subtlety, sneakiness, and fun-loving.

I'm so not joking about this posting, by the way.

Anyway, the OSF decided we should become nemesises (nemeses? nemesi?), and ever since we've been on the lookout to "get" each other.

Sometimes we actually pull off the nemesis activities ourselves.

Like when I grabbed my soda to take a drink, and just before I put it back down, he set his own down on my coaster. "Nemesised," he said with a smirk.

Or when he asked me to tie his shoelace for him, and I happily spent the next minute knotting the lace inside and around the bottom part of his shoe. "Nemesised." And I sat back into the couch, folded my arms, and smiled angelically.

And sometimes, we just take credit for random bouts of bad luck that happen to us. Like when the OSF got his foot run over by a guy in an electric wheelchair. That one put me a couple Nemesised Moments ahead.

The OSF even made little Nemesised cards, to hand out whenever a nemesis moment arises. He's a creative one, that OSF. He could totally have snagged the original Nemesis job offer.

Anyway, all this is to say that we banded together last night/early this morning and nemesised Ryan. Nothing bad, Ry, don't worry. You just fell asleep during the movie last night- and you looked so cute and peaceful, passed out on the couch, hugging your pillow, and clutching your cell phone- that we had to snap some pictures of you. Man, you sleep through anything. Even five or six clicks of the camera, both of us whispering about the tungsten light settings, the blare of the movie ending, and finally both of us snapping off all the lights and locking the door behind us.

Oh, and did you see the Nemesis card? We left it on the couch by your head.

Consider yourself properly nemesised.

She's just so stinking cute!

Alternative title: "If I were ever to kidnap a child, it would probably be this one."

I stole Lucy for a bit of a photo shoot today before the sun went down, and for the first time she was so accommodating. Look at these cute faces we got out of her! But I think this one here is my favorite. Those blue eyes just kill me.

After I got awesome pics of Lucy, Lucy and me, and Lucy and Justin G. (who so graciously helped me in the making Lucy laugh/keeping her from eating grass department), Jessica complained that she never gets pictures with her own kid. So we hauled her outside in the last of the cold and waning sunlight, and made her pose for the picture of the day. Such a cute little family- if only Gwen hadn't been at Girl Scouts it would have been a perfect family photo!

And this one, I just couldn't resist, even though it's a little blurred and dark. Such a fun baby!

And kudos to Justin G. for taking this picture of me with the little cutie. Cuz I love being in my own pictures, too!

Confessions: Volume Six

You know that guy that gets periodically mentioned on this here blog? The OSF is his name? You might have heard of him, right? Maybe? Once in awhile? He hangs around a lot, was the one who put up our new blinds yesterday?

You know, that guy?

I'm just mentioning him here... for no reason whatsoever... other than that, well, I've decided, and he agrees, that since we're always hanging out together anyway, anyway, that we might as well just, you know, go ahead and date.

(And if you get peanut butter, get smooth!)

** Edited for proper slang use. Thank you, Jessica and Chris.

Slave Labor

We've had a surplus of guys over at our house lately. Apparently they just can't get enough of us amazingly entertaining roommates. And since they're around so much, we've decided to put them to work to earn their keep. (Hey, we don't entertain for free around here.)

Here's one now, putting up the new kitchen blinds Jenna bought last week (in her house makeover frenzy of Thursday afternoon).

What would we do without guys who own power drills?

For Jessica:

I've got a secret.

A good one.

(PS- I promise more updates are coming soon! Check back tonight for some pictures, too!)

Mornings and Evenings

I can pretty much always count on Jen to be sitting at the kitchen table when I come stumbling down the stairs around noon each day. (I know, I know- noon! I'm getting better though, I promise!) Whether she's got her Bible and devotion books spread out, or just talking on the phone like this morning, it pretty much never fails that she's there to greet me as I grab some juice and head off to work.

.

Evenings over at the good ol' apartment have become interesting, with new friends and old finding themselves at our place in the last few weeks. Seems like there's always something going on at night. Tonight, Wednesday, we watched Once, one of the OSF's favorite movies, with Jen, Russ, Brittany, Trent (kind of for awhile), Chris, and me. Our movie night was complete with delicious popcorn and quick-cooled (read: stuck in the freezer for half an hour) hard lemonade (original, of course). While I can't say the movie's going to go on my favorite's list, it was definitely a good watch, and I really liked this one song that Kris Allen ended up singing a few weeks ago on American Idol. It's still kind of stuck in my head. :)

I've been a terrible blogger

I know it. I've been called out on it. By multiple fellow bloggers.

But there's good news!

I am devoting the next hour to nothing but updating my blog and uploading all the pictures from this past week. I won't finish everything, but I'll at least put up what I have, pictures or not, finished stories or not... just come back sometime over the weekend (fingers crossed!) for final blogs with pictures.

Here's a teaser of some blogs to expect:
Glee!
Friend date to Disneyland!
Laser tag!
Sonia and Paul's wedding!
Disneyland with the gang!
Roommate sleepover!

Happy Wednesday!

A Track 4 kind of day

I got in my very first ever car accident on Monday. Bummer. But luckily for me, God loves me to pieces, and, much like my first 'getting-pulled-over-experience,' my first accident experience went about as well as that kind of situation could possibly go:

1) Both of our cars were completely drivable afterward.
2) The car I hit barely had any scratches and one tiny indent on the bumper.
3) The guy driving was super, super nice, and pretty much had the exact same personality as my TGO, Ryan. As I told everyone later, it was like running into Ryan if I didn't know him yet.
4) I did not cry.
5) My insurance people were amazingly great.
6) My dad was so sweet about it, even though I assumed he'd be angry with me: "The car can be replaced," he said, when he looked it over, which in my dad's language means, "I'm glad you didn't die in a fiery car wreck, because I love you." (You gotta read into these things sometimes.)
7) Dad's already found the right parts to make my front bumper look brand new, and for under $100.

Gotta love experiences like that.

Andy's homecoming was later that night, and he wanted us to go to McGregor's to celebrate and chill. He's actually much more excited than the picture of the day portrays:

Tuesday we had our normal Coffee Shop Tuesday for about an hour, then we all piled in the OSF's car for an impromptu run to Best Buy (because I wanted to play with my soon-to-be-new-laptop). And after that we headed back to Ryan's for American Idol finale night, followed by the TV premiere of Glee. Here's Ryan sportin' the Glee and dialing in for Kris Allen for the 127th time:

Disneyland with some cool peoples

Yippee! It's finally time for another Disneyland trip!

And even better, it's a Disneyland trip with a whole bunch of my favorite people, who hardly ever go to Disneyland!

So it was like the most perfect day ever.

The only thing I would change would be getting these yahoos to be better models when I whip out that Rebel camera.

I mean, come one. What's the point of having an amazing camera, if all your friends will give you is this?

Ridiculous, I tell you. At least Ryan understands my plight... well, mostly. He wasn't trying to photograph the guys, just fun Disneyland points of interest. I like that he's looking through his 3D glasses and the camera lens here.

Finally! Jarrod pulls through with some normal faces. The first thing we did was hit up California Adventures to experience the new Toy Story ride. Jarrod and I talked a big game, since we were the only ones who'd played it so far, but in the end Justin of course pulled through to kick all of our behinds, with a pretty wide margin, too. Errrrr. That kid ruins all our fun.

Ducks! Remember how I said Ryan and I found baby ducks in the smaller pond at Disneyland last week? Well, they're still there! So the group of us stopped and watched as Mama Duck swam with her four babies in a row behind her, until Daddy Duck came along and decided to, well, um... let's just say he was in the mood to create some more baby ducks....

There's that OSF boy.

We had a lot of fun together. Would you believe he hadn't been to Disneyland in years and years? We showed him the ropes of Disneyland excursions, and I believe he is now hooked. Next time- geocaching at the Magic Kingdom!

Then more of this:

Then a little inappropriateness between the guys:

Finally! A real normal picture of Jesse!

And then we're back to this. Why do I even try? Why? It's like they don't even want fun memories of their day.

Except Jarrod. If I can get him by himself in a picture, he's a brilliant model.

Seriously. Sometimes he takes it a little too seriously.

They guys entertained themselves almost the entire day with their fancy new cell phones, including Jarrod's brand new iphone. There are some ridiculous games on that thing. And I'm not sure how I feel about everyone being on their phones during the line wait instead of having actual conversations.

Then on to Buzz Lightyear, where Jarrod destroyed us all, with Justin coming in a close second and claiming his gun wasn't working properly. Yeah, well neither was mine, and I still managed to beat that OSF! (We'll call it a tie from laser tag the week before, OSF.)

Justin and me. Thanks for smiling for real, Jgushin!

Caught this one of Jarrod by the Grizzly Rapids ride. Love the way the lamp post in the corner tricks your eye into thinking it's the moon shining on him.

Such a great day, with such fun people! We all stayed for the fireworks and everything, and even though Tinker Bell didn't jump from the Matterhorn (sad, because I'd really talked that part up to the OSF), it was still a great show. Jarrod, Justin, and Jesse left after that, and the rest of us hit up Small World, Space Mountain, and Matterhorn before heading home. Great day! And I've got another one coming up next week, which may be even better! ;)

A Tale of Two TGO's: Second Edition

Ryan and I took Monday off of work to make a day out of traveling up to Santa Monica for the Glee screening. We left early enough to give us a few hours to hang out at Disneyland on a quiet Monday afternoon. We rode some rides, tried some photography stuff in front of the castle, and had an overall nice time. Oh! And we found baby ducks in the pond by Frontier Land? Lots of time spent taking pictures of Mama Duck and her three little ducklings.

Then we headed north for Santa Monica High School. We found the place easily enough, and luckily found a Subway right down the street, too. Made it back to the school around 5:30 and wandered around while things were being set up.

At 6:30 they let everyone into the outdoor amphitheater and Ryan and I snagged front row seats, and two medium-sized Glee T-shirts (no smalls, sadly), then took turns running back up the stairs to the main area which was set up with tons of carts giving out popcorn, cotton candy, slushies and stuff. On my turn running up for more popcorn, the stars of the show began to arrive for the makeshift "red carpet" interviews. First up were Jayma Mays and Jessalyn Gilsig, who've both been on Heroes, so that was kind of cool to see some first season Heroes show up.

But we all know we were only there for Lea Michele.

So Lea Michele showed up about twenty minutes later, and Ryan and I strategically placed ourselves to where we could hopefully get to meet her before the show started, since we weren't sure if they'd do a meet and greet kind of thing, like they usually do with theatrical shows. Sadly, the interviews were taking forever, and Ryan went back to the front to watch our stuff when the program started off with the Santa Monica cheerleading squad and band performing to some of the Glee songs.

But I stuck it out in the bitter cold, and finally, finally, she finished her last interview. Someone handed her a bag of popcorn and she started to come into the amphitheater to watch the show from the top, where I just so happened to be waiting with mine and Ryan's Spring Awakening books. She was definitely in a hurry, and her people were trying to keep her moving, but she graciously stopped to sign both of our books. The only bummer was that I couldn't get Ryan's book open to the appropriate page fast enough, so she ended up signing in the front, where there's a red pattern that makes autographs hard to see. But- hopefully it was made up for by the fact that she used her teeth to pull off the pen cap (she laughed when she handed it back to me, saying sorry her spit was all over it now), and so Ryan's lucky Jeopardy pen just so happens to have Lea Michele's DNA on it now. :) He likes it.

The screening was fun, although the show wasn't quite as funny as I was expecting. Ryan really enjoyed it though, and when we watched it later with the OSF, he seemed to like it too, so I figure it'll grow on me soon enough. After the screening, the entire cast came out on stage for a Q & A, where they told us about some of their audition ordeals (car accidents on the way, bitten by a spider and covered in hives), working with Kristen Chenoweth when she guest starred, and how the songs each week will be available for download on itunes, which Ryan and I are definitely happy about.

It turned out to be a good thing I stuck it out waiting for Lea Michele earlier, because once the Q & A was over, a bunch of security guards stationed themselves around the actors, as if we were all going to rush them onstage. So ridiculous. I think it's funny that people seem to think TV actors are so much more special than theater actors. In theater, the stars come right outside and talk to people on the street, take pictures, etc., with no one around to really protect them; But here the security guards kept them all away from the crowd, even though most of the actors are either no-names yet, or are known by a select few (like Ryan and I and a few other SA fans) for their theater credits.

So it was pretty ridiculous, but we waited it out anyway. Unfortunately Lea Michele left before any of the actors broke the security guard line to come talk to people, but we were able to talk with Jenna Ushkowitz for a bit. She was a replacement swing in the New York company of Spring Awakening until it closed in January, and she was definitely fun to talk with about it. She said she's played all of the girl characters but Wendla, and Ilse was her favorite to portray. Then she signed our books, took a picture with Ryan, and then, ignoring the security guard's warning that that would be the last picture, asked if I wanted one too. So sweet!

By the time all the hoopla was over, we were pretty much frozen for life, so we headed back to Ryan's truck and cranked up the heater and Spring Awakening tunes. Just out of L.A., we started looking for a McDonald's to recharge with 79 cent caffeination, and Ryan decided we also needed a $5 pizza. So at 11:30pm, we sat in the McDonald's parking lot, macking down on Little Caesar's and giant cokes. It was pretty fantastic.

Thanks, TGO, for a great friend date day! Hope there are more to come, and I just know you'll meet Lea Michele sooner or later! :)
